Sustainability
Sustainable co-existence and our ambition for the long run
Climate change disrupts lives through extreme weather, rising sea levels, food insecurity, air pollution, disease and forced displacement – disproportionately affecting those with the least resources. Rising energy demands, and geopolitical uncertainties require bold action and strong collaboration. We view these challenges as opportunities to drive lasting progress through responsible ownership, sustainable development, and strategic partnerships. By working closely with local communities, policymakers, and investors, we turn ambition into action, accelerating the energy transition.
As a publicly listed company in a heavily regulated sector, we are consistently observed, evaluated, and assessed based on our performance, business practices, and ethical standards. We excel under this scrutiny, which motivates us to constantly enhance our operations.
Summary of our primary targets
Environment: Achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
Social: Ensuring zero workplace injuries and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion with a target of 40% female representation by 2025.
Governance: Maintaining zero compliance breaches.
For a deep dive in our sustainability approach, priorities, and achievements we recommend reading our 2024 annual report. Ongoing sustainability initiatives can also be seen in the news section of each project.
The transition to renewable energy is one of the most urgent and complex challenges of our time. Every additional kilowatt-hour of clean energy we generate reduces the Nordic's reliance on imported fossil fuels, which leads to a reduction in Europe's overall carbon emissions.
Focusing were it matters the most
True sustainability extends beyond environmental compliance, it also requires social commitment, community collaboration and transparency. The concept of sustainability is broad and multifaceted. It encompasses a wide range of areas, from employee well-being and anti-corruption policies to nature conservation initiatives and emissions reduction. To determine which areas are most crucial for us, we conduct a Double Materiality Assessment. Currently we have identified these six topics as material for Cloudberry. Below is a snapshot of our material topics. Further information can be found in our 2024 annual report.
- Climate Change: Cloudberry powers the green transition by producing clean, renewable energy. This is one of humanity's most impactful tools in the fight climate change.
- Biodiversity and Ecosystems: Constructing and operating power plants in natural environments requires a responsible mindset and deep knowledge, to avoid negatively affecting nature. We have several systems in place to ensure that we minimize and avoid negative impacts as much as possible. These systems range from internal routines, to external consultations with local stakeholders, biologists, and regulatory bodies.
- Own Workforce: Ensuring a safe and inclusive workplace for our own employees.
- Workers in the Value Chain: Promoting fair and decent labor conditions for our entrepreneurs, consultants and the workers in our value chain.
- Affected Communities: Open, honest and constructive dialogue with the local communities around our project sites is key to our design phase. By listening to the people who knows the site, we ensure that we minimize the negative impacts, and maximize positive impacts on the local community. Also, we experience that such dialogue helps foster collaboration, and even contributes to improving the design of our projects.
- Business Conduct: Solid governance is key to profitable and responsible operations. Both with regards to our own operations, and in our value chain.
EU Taxonomy
The EU Taxonomy is EUs standardized way of defining how much of a company’s operations can be classified as sustainable. We’re happy to report that as of 2024, 84% of our turnover, 99% of our CapEx and 98% of our OpEx is considered sustainable according to this framework.
Ambitious Science based targets:
• Reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030.
• Cut total emissions by 90% by 2040.
